DAY 19: A vice president’s hometown

OCT. 29, 2018  |  The crew spent the day conducting “man on the street” interviews with people in Columbus, Ind., hometown of Vice President Mike Pence.  Columbus, a prosperous city of about 44,000 people, is the headquarters of Cummins, an American Fortune 500 manufacturer of engines.  Cummins’s imprint on the town is most recognizable in the blend of traditional Hoosier buildings and modern architecture that was championed by a former company co-founder.

Those interviewed throughout the day generally had positive things to say about Pence, the local boy made good on the national scene.  They generally supported the region’s traditional conservative values.
